Research Strategy

The goal of the TC 7.8 research efforts continues to be the development of life cycle costing data for inclusion in the handbook chapter. As our current research project on maintenance costs nears completion, we are realizing that a totally comprehensive analysis of all equipment and system types is beyond the capability of any single consultant or even of ASHRAE as a whole. With that realization, our recent discussions have focused on how to maintain a dynamic database which can be fed by both internally sponsored projects as well as data collected from outside sources. With this in mind, we have modified our research priorities to develop a work statement defining the data collection procedures required for inclusion in our dynamic database. This procedure will be of particular importance to allow inclusion of new and emerging technologies in a timely fashion. We are also exploring the possibility of including this finalized data on a web site to allow more immediate dissemination of the information, as it becomes available.
